Mayflower II Returns

The Mayflower II returned from winter drydock a couple weeks ago and I decided to go out and meet her. I launched from the boat ramp in the harbor and paddled out to the point of Long Beach to watch her 1st enter the harbor then cut across the harbor to watch her dock.

She spends the winter in Fairhaven getting whatever repairs that need doing taken care of and once she receives her seaworthiness certification she comes back to Plymouth. She’s brought in with a tug. There is usually a small crowd on hand to welcome her return. Strangely enough I was the only one on the water watching. Not a boat in site other than the harbormaster.

Here are a couple of pics of her return. I thought I would have some Go Pro closeups from on the water but I screwed up somehow and it wasn’t taking pics.

Your’s truly looking small.

Pretty amazing when you think about making the voyage across the Atlantic in this ship. Leaving everything behind and coming to the shores of a place where there was nothing. What we consider hard work and determination today seems pretty tame by comparison.
